Welcome to the Bad Golfers Association website; home to those of us who know there is a scratch golfer locked up somewhere inside of us, but have come to realize that there is no chance he will ever get out.
If you truly are ready to admit to yourself and your golfing buddies that you are never going to qualify for the Senior Tour, then you are welcome here.

Golf Joke of the Week

These greens are so fast I have to hold my putter over the ball and hit it with the shadow.

Many similar pithy sayings come from a terrific instructor, Gary Marlowe. The BGA's abilities are in no way a true reflection of Gary's teaching methods. We used to be much worse!

"You've just one problem. You stand too close to the ball after you've hit it."

"Bad But Proud"
Click to Visit the Citrus Hills, Florida website

Congratulations to Sam Andrade for shooting an amazing 71 recentlyplaying a BGA tournament in Florida. Wonder if Sam is related to a certain Billy Andrade who has been known to do well on the PGA venue? Way to go, Sam and as Clint Wynne posited, "Aren't you sorry you missed 'that' putt for a par round?"  The Chapter's slogan of "Bad But Proud" somehow doesn't ring true when talking about Sam. On the other hand, like the rest of us, Sam might just shoot a 103 next week. Live large, Sam, 'cuz you have done something we just dream of.

Mr. FourSkin and the Aston Martin

In a departure from our weekly match, Bill "Mr. FourSkin" Cockey took part in a charity event not sponsored by the BGA. Of course someone else paid his entry fees. This event and his sensational shotmaking earned him yet another nickname...

Season-Ending Match Re-Scheduled;
Awarding of Coveted Specimen Cup Delayed

In a way that exemplified the 2011 season, our final round was washed out on Wed., Oct. 12. Even though there had only been one lost round this year, there were at least a dozen times that our wives and friends made fun of our be-draggeled looks after we finished yet another soggy or muddy or, yes, even icy round. From our first round in March through the last round in October we have played in every kind of weather Baltimore has to offer. Hail? We played in it. Snow flurries? Yeah, them too. Hurricane watch? Tornado warnings? Yep, we finished at least 20 minutes before they hit. T'storms and lightning? Of course we played in that although we do tend to pause and think about the lightning. Beautiful 75 degree weather? Well I think we had it once or twice. Triple digit temperatures? Sure, it is Baltimore in the summer, you know. The time we were rained out we got to the sixth green before the free-flowing currents between our balls and the cup prevented us from putting. We are dedicated, to say the least.

Who Cares If It's a Tropical Storm? It's Tee Time!
What would you do if torrential rains let up just as your tee time approached? Sure the forecast is for floods and up to 6" of more rain in the next couple of days, but right now there is a break in the bands of rain of former Hurricane Lee. If you love this game like we do, I'm sure you, too, would tee it up. Read The Scribe's Report for Sept. 7 to see if "the sun always shines on the BGA."

Mid-Year Review of the 2011 BGA Season

exclusive report from The Snowman

The 2011 season has reached its midpoint and it is time to reflect back on the always amusing antics of the BGA. The season kicked off as planned on March 23 on a rainy 44 degree afternoon at Mt. Pleasant. The BGA managed to get the round  in with only seconds to spare before the floodgates opened. The weather the following week was even worse. Neither rain, nor snow, nor even hail shall stop the BGA from their appointed round. With temperatures falling into the 30s the BGA played on with the fearless duffers battling snow, sleet and hail on hole #4. Three snowmen and an El Nino were aptly scored on the now infamous Hail Hole....

Ocean City Experience #1 a Winner!
For only playing 2 rounds of golf, the first 'Myrtle North" trip was a resounding success. In fact, we have decided that this will become at least a twice yearly event. Within a week or two we will be posting a new "OC Experience" section similar to our "Myrtle Experience." The golf ranged from a low 9-hole total of 42 all the way up to a resounding 68. Throw in a great local bar to hang out in and a nearby casino that just opened up and what more could you ask for in a golf getaway?

The Snowman Speaks
Keep up with golf from "Frosty's" unique view by visiting his very own page. Be afraid, be very afraid. Actually The Snowman, a lifelong member of the BGA, just recently brought his handicap to 18 (for nine holes, mind you) and is willing to "share" some of his thoughts about this great game. It just proves you don't have to be good to enjoy this great game. After the first month of the 2011 season Frosty has a clear lead in The Race For The Cheeseburger and the coveted Specimen Cup.

Bill Murray Wins a "Snowman's Chapeau"

The BGA's Board of Directors has awarded one of our coveted "Snowman Chapeaus" to Bill Murray in recognition of his fine play in winning the AT&T National Pro-Am at Pebble Beach. Mr. Murray's partner for the event, D.A. Points, recorded his first PGA Tour victory. Perhaps best known as "Carl Spackler," the greenskeeper in the movie "Caddyshack," Mr. Murray's golf game has come a long way and he contributed some fine shots to help his team win the event. Somewhere I know this "Cinderella Story" has Jack Lemmon just a little jealous as he tried for over 40 years before his death just to make the cut at this event and never got to play the final round on Sunday. Pictured above is a stand-in for Bill Murray since he was not available to model his new hat.

Hats and Shirts

They're here. The BGA Store is now open. The tee shirts are heavy 100% cotton Hanes Tagless Tees, available in 2 colors, Stonewashed Green and Natural. Both the hats and shirts are embroidered with the Snowman logo re-created in a 10,000 stitch work of art.
Send us a photo of you and/or your buddies displaying BGA Gear and we will post it on a new "BGA Gear Gets Around" page.
Hey, you don't have to be good to enjoy this game!

Monumental Achievements from Myrtle Beach:
Be sure to check out the Monumental Achievement Awards that are posted for The Myrtle Experience. Myrtle Beach has produced some truly astonishing golf from our intrepid Bad Golfer brothers. The Crackpot's own raconteur and gregarious(?) bartender, Kevin "C'Mon Thirteen" Levine has at least two "moments to remember." Give thanks that you are just reading about them and not having lived through these poignant moments.
