Wed. Oct. 14: The Final Round of the Season
Weather: temp 48, constant drizzle
Highlights:  RS shot his 3rd best round (42, net 35); CS his second worst (59, net 49); BL his 5th best (52, net 36), and BC an average round of 44, net 38. BC secured the coveted Cheeseburger Award for 2009 when Cork missed the fairway with his first tee shot. CS went on to miss many other things during his final round of the season.
  • The BGA played a 30 week season (108 rounds) consisting of 972 holes and totaled 16 birdies, a rate of 1.65%; double last season's rate of 0.82% (8 birdies in 103 rounds)
  • Pars were also up slightly to 20.88% compared to 19.96% last season
  • Double digits stayed at 10 for each year but the percentage decreased to 1.03% from 1.08%
  • Scores of 7 or above in 2009 were 18.62% compared to 18.99% last year
  • We hit fewer fairways (31.83% compared to 32.89%) but our Greens in Regulation (GIR) was exactly the same at 22.33%
  • Average BGA score was 48.79 (5.42/hole; with 2 players better and 2 worse) compared with 49.02 and 5.45/hole in 2008
  • Once again, no one entered the eagle competition. This makes about 20 consecutive years without a gold medalist in this category.
  • 4 cheeseburgers were awarded this year compared to just 1 last season
  • 30 beers were won with BC getting 9 and BL-CS-RS each winning 7
  • CS and RS exactly tied with a net of 1083 strokes (perfect handicapping)
  • Handicaps at yearend (2008 handicap in parens): BC 6 (7); BL 16 (17), CS 10 (11), and The Commish 7 (7)

Amazing as it seems, we of the BGA improved slightly over last season's futility. Next scheduled round TBA.

Wed., Oct. 7
Weather:
Gusts to 40 mph, temp. 63
Highlights: CS pounds his drive on #1 into the wind, hits a good second shot but falters to three-putt for a 10. RS ties BC for the birdie lead with a chip-in on #1. BC holds on for a 1 stroke victory and another extra cold one from CS.

Going into the final round next week there are many titles still to be determined:
  • BC/RS tied with 7 birdies each
  • RS has a slim lead in fewest putts over BC, 494 to 496
  • CS is now even in beers but RS and BL are in a race for buying the most (RS is -3 to BL's -2)
  • RS seems to have won the 2's with 3 to BC's 1 but the 3's category is tied between BC and CS with 15
  • Surprise, surprise...The Snowman will retain his title with 22 compared to 20 for the rest of the BGA combined (CS 12, RS 5, and BC 3)
  • BC has won the Beer and Cheeseburger Races
  • CS has wrapped up the 10's (CS-5, BL 2, BC/RS 0) but BL leads in every other class from 6 thru 12
  • CS will lead the league in most putts and most strokes (gross) unless he beats BL by 48 strokes and BC by 15 putts next week
  • BC has wrapped up the 4's (72 to 57 lead) and probably the 5's (85 to 80) Fairways look like RS (75 to 71 for BC)
  • GIR is BC's with a lead of 80 to 58
  • Pars are also BC's 74 to 58
