Admittedly, the benefits of belonging to the BGA are few. At least "pride" can no longer be considered one of your character flaws. Who possibly could be a proud member of the BGA and still have any pride left? The simple act of belonging, therefore, frees the soul to enjoy the true spirit of the great game of golf. This game hasn't survived since the Scots started playing back in 1340 by providing just a lucky few with the ability to play good golf and leaving the rest of us with only frustration and heartbreak. Golf is an important lesson in life, etc., etc., blah, blah, blah.

Be real. Most of us who enjoy the game cherish the friendships, the verbal jibs, and just as importantly, the ability to laugh at our own shortcomings. We can never master this game; however, there are those precious few times when we shine. We hit a great draw off the tee or read a long putt perfectly and the game belongs to us. Those shots are what we are freed up to remember as we no longer feel compelled to dwell solely on the chip we chili-dipped or the fade we envisioned that we double-crossed into the road on the left.
